Industry-Leading High Density, Low Power Data Center Interconnect (DCI) Solution Forms Resilient, Scalable, and Cost-Efficient Foundation for 100G and Beyond
ZURICH, Switzerland / MUNICH, Germany, 4 November 2016 – Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end packet optical networking solutions and SwissIX Internet Exchange, the largest Internet exchange point in Switzerland, today announced that SwissIX has deployed the Coriant Groove™ G30 DCI Platform to scale interconnection bandwidth between core network sites to 100G and beyond. Following rigorous evaluation and testing of competing solutions, SwissIX selected the Coriant Groove™ G30 DCI Platform based on its industry-leading high density and low power consumption, as well as its proven reliability in challenging fiber conditions.
“This upgrade represents an important milestone in the SwissIX 2020 infrastructure project as we future-proof our network for the surging bandwidth demands of our peers,” said Ulf Kieber, President, SwissIX Internet Exchange. “The best-in-class Groove solution not only gives us tremendous efficiencies in terms of power and space, but also enables us to expand end-user connectivity to 100G while laying the foundation for core network scalability to 200G and beyond.”
Deployed in the most demanding DCI and internet exchange environments, the Coriant Groove™ G30 DCI Platform is an innovative stackable transport solution for cloud and data center networks that delivers industry-leading 3.2 Tbps of capacity throughput in a highly compact, power-efficient 1RU form factor.
"As traffic volumes between data centers drive demand for higher speed optical layer connectivity, link performance in DCI applications becomes increasingly critical, especially in cases where existing fiber plants present transmission challenges,” said Marcus Bienek, Director of Customer Operations Germany/Switzerland, Coriant. “We were pleased to deliver SwissIX a purpose-built DCI solution that demonstrated superior performance not only in terms of resiliency, but also system density, power efficiency, and pay-as-you-grow scalability.”
Powered by Coriant CloudWave™ Optics, the Coriant Groove™ G30 supports software programmable and highly scalable DWDM line rates (100G/150G/200G) that enable operators to maximize cost-efficiency and transmission performance in a broad range of metro, regional, and long haul DCI applications.

The largest Swiss Internet Exchange Point SwissIX upgrades its backbone to 100 Gbps.100 Gbps ports are now also available to members and participants.
Zurich, August 30, 2016 -- SwissIX Internet Exchange, the largest Internet exchange point in Switzerland, has completed a hardware upgrade of its four core nodes and is now capable of delivering 100 Gbps port speeds in these locations.Interconnection bandwidth between core sites has also been increased to 100 Gbps. This upgrade marks an important milestone in the SwissIX2020 infrastructure project.
Begun in June 2015 SwissIX2020 is aimed to ensure reliability and future scalability of the exchange."At SwissIX we see data volumes double about every twelve to 18 months, which is faster than More's Law.Creating and maintaining a sustainable and scalable infrastructure in a high bandwidth environment distributed across several data centers is a demanding challenge we embrace with a lot of enthusiasm", said Ulf Kieber, President of the SwissIX Internet Exchange Association.Increasing international response has significantly contributed to the recent traffic growth.SwissIX will continue its project SwissIX2020 to further improve services.
With this upgrade SwissIX also starts offering 100 Gbps ports to peers."Switzerland is a rapidly growing Internet market.Adding 100 Gbps ports to our product portfolio will keep us ahead of bandwidth demands", Ulf Kieber resumes.A wide set of connected networks, a competitive service offering and data center neutrality will further support the attractiveness of the exchange and ensure high quality access to Swiss Internet businesses and customers.
